  • Thanks Terry.  I was hoping to connect with some old drinking buddy's from Heavy 5 from the early 70's.  I was a PH2 and worked line and then IOIC.

  • Hi Terry,  Thanks for the welcome, made me feel at home.  I know I worked with you at heavy 3.  It may have been line watch,  or maybe I got parts, perhaps the birthing.  Who knows, however I certainly remember your picture.  I have been trying to install my photo at the top of the page, and haven't had much success.  I've tried all the sizes , and options.  It always says it cannot load.  I've loaded a bunch of photos to my photos and it worked fine.  Any thoughts?

  • Thanks Terry, Glad I found it.

  • Thanks Terrill,

I served  in Heavy 7 from Early '76 until June '79 when my enlistment was up.  I will always have fond memories, and good stories from those times.  I took my kids to Key West when my son was in the Marines, and we did a little tour of NAS Boca Chica.  Little had changed except the static display was now a Viggi, and the Exchange was much bigger.  I remember when Carter was President they talked of closing the base.  I'm glad they didn't.

  • Hello Terry,

Thank you for the welcome. I served with RVAH 5 And RVAH 7. I was there for the decommission  of RVAH 5 then transferred to RVAH 7. My tour ended just a couple of Months before RVAH 7 decommissioned.

  • Hi Terrill, thanks for the welcome aboard....... I was attached to Heavy 5 from
1963 to 1966. Didn't get to spend much time in Sanford. Was deployed on the Forestal out of Norfolk and then the Ranger from the west coast. I am putting together a Shadow Box of my career, would you happen to know where I might could fine some patches, coins or any other items on RVAH-5 I might could use. We were called the "Savage Sons of Sanford" . Any help would be greatly appreciated. My
email address is lvanzant@bellsouth.net and phone # 386-734-8516.
Thanks again for the Welcome Aboard.

  • Thanks!

  • I served at RVAH 3 Feb. 69 to Dec. 71 . I was a AK material handling. I went on several Carrier Qual.  on these,  I was the only store keeper for the Squadron on ship. While on base I worked the window in RVAH3 supply, also delivered parts to other Squardtons on base. BEING we were a rag outfit. Grew my beard their & still have it. At the time I served, I lived in Chicago.  Now Retired Sheet Metal Journeymen., Living in Mi. on the largest inland lake in Mi.  Guess it's the Navy in me to be by water.

  • tks I was in 9 from 1962-1966 I live in Deltona fl close to Sanford looking forward to jun for a get to gether in Sanford. it will be the first one for me ,I lived up north and never made one.

  • Thank you  T

    - I was in 1 from Feb 75 to Jan 78. I was a AT 2nd Class. Worked O level most of the time but did work I level when we deployed on Enterprise.

I loved it would have stayed there for ever but knew they were dying. So I went to B school made 1st and did a tour of instructor duty in Millington,

Then went to VF-74 in Oceana VA. Did a couple of years with F-4's, made chief, then a couple after they switched to F-14's,

I was then transferred to NAS Norfolk assigned to the C-131 Station aircraft as maintenance Chief & Leading Chief until they sent them to the bone yard. I was then assigned to Air Operations until I was retired on disability for nerve damage in my legs caused by some of the chemicals we used in those days to clean aircraft.

I had a great career I made Chief in 10 years and was selected for 8 at 12 1/2 but never got to put it on . I would have been a 30 year lifer if they would have let me stay. I retired in December 1988.

I miss the life and all the good men I served with.  -- George
