Brings back memories! Once, when returning from a bombing run, I was on "wheels watch" in the tower when the pilot requested crash crew stand by. When asked "why: he replied that he had "lost" the starboard engine!. Tower replied "so what, you've been trained to land the A3D with only 1 engine". Pilot requested a "fly by", and, lo and behold, the starboard engine was totally missing from the wing! Only the nacelle and a few wires remained! Tru dis!
I was in 7 during the transition to the A-5A
Anyway, I also live in Sanford, (since 1980) and hangout at the Fleet if you ever want to stop by. 407-322-2645
