Thanks John. I am was an RVAH-1 AD. There were many great experiences and good times. They are still missed. Hindsight is so 20/20. There is still an RA5C outside the old Sanford base that I can still visit..............Ed
Thanks John, I was a PT then IS aboard the Kitty Hawk, early 73 to mid 76. Made two west pacs with Heavy squadrons, 7 in 73-74 I think, and 6 in 75.
I got out in June 80 after several years at FicPac, Pearl working for ONI.
I and a few former PTs I served with have been trying to locate Charlie Johnson whom I thought was in one of these. I know Charlie made at least one cruise with us. Charlie is on the right side. Ed
I did time in 11, 12, and 3 from 1974 to 1979 in Key West. I'm sure there were nights I was at my wits end changing out a fuel control but overall I really enjoyed that time in my life.
Thank you for including me. And for the PT guy in the comments, don't feel too bad about your rating. PT was one of my choices for A school. but was declined because I wasn't smart enough.
I did PH in RVAH-9 from turn over from VAH-9 to second fast turnover on Ranger. I got out for various reasons, sadly because my intentions were to "Do 20 an go for 30 if I liked it." So many stories to share if anyone wants to hear them, was free and easy in 87 so re-upped with my son on his 18th birthday. Had to start over because of time out, so made PH3 and Ph2 exactly 25 years after the first time. Had some great experiences and retired at 60 years. My mind and heart always go back to the Vigilante and the scream it used to make as it approached the cables. I called it Rodan, such a beautiful sight. Glad to be a part of you shipmates.
