Just found this group. I too was in Hvy 14 and exited in December of 1973. We got early outs if I remember correctly. Got "codded" off the deck while out sailing. I got back to San Francisco to be released on 12-20-73. When released, I was an AMH-3.
Dennis I just remember the name tacan, ha. It for sure was no for AE'S. if the signal was in the air, it ain't mine, ha. Dennis it sure is fun getting back into talking to a great group of guys from "floating 14" it was the best and the worst times all rolled up into one. The pressure was good to finish a job we did. See ya later. Delbert
Delbert Hayes AEC here. I made the 73 cruise too. I was delayed transfer to memphis because of the strife that was going on in the eastern med. Finally left squadron in dec. I remember Rix(I think)
Dennis, I was a Plank Owner of RVAH 14 and the USS John F. Kennedy. I came aboard when heavy 14 was formed in 1968. I got our in May 1970, just before they moved to Key West. We moved the Sanford Base to Albany, GA.
You may have served with a great friend of mine - Keith Byington. I have tried for years to connect with Keith with no success.
Glad to meet you - maybe we can stay in touch and tell stories.
"Hey Steve. You were an AQ3 in H-3 from '70 - '73? Do you remember AQ6 John Swihart(sp)? Your name doesn't ring a bell, but then my memories off people I worked with is limited mostly of supervisors like AQC Rix and AQC Lee. Anyway, it's good to…"
"Was it the AE's or the AT's that took care of the TACAN? I get them confused now, but Chief Rix and I had a run-in over the TACAN after one flight aboard Independence."
"Welcome aboard. I'm guessing you were with RVAH 14 before I got there in '73. I got to build the floor in the new shop in Key West. 2 hammers and a hand saw, not exactly what I trained for. :o)
