Peter, The VAH squadrons started receiving he A3D's (guns & all) in mid 1957. I think VAH-9 was one of the first to get them at Sanford, when I came aboard in July '57.
I see you live in Lecanto, FL. Small world! We were snow birds and spent 8 winters at Rock Crusher Canyon until my wife passed away last year. As soon as I can sell my house, I'm coming down, probably to Citrus Hills or Forest Ridge. My wife's brother is in Citrus Hills and I have friends all over the area. My wife also had family in the Crystal River area. We'll have to hook up. I might be down in December for the Wreaths Across America project at Bushnell. Do you know about that? I buried my wife at the National Cemetery at Bushnell, in anticipation of me coming down. You can reach me at Attn9@aol.com. John
Thanks for the welcome Pete. Just looking at this site brings back good memories. As soon as I re look at the cruise book I will be able to put names with the Airframes picture I have from the 74 cruise. Again thanks
I am not sure what GRK means but I'm am English, Irish, Dutch, Welsh and Indian and vary little Indian. What were the dates you were in VAH-6? Maybe we know some of the same people. Heres my email address Haroldsplace@suddenlink.net. Hope to hear from you.
That is definitely the Breakers in New Smyrna. I took that picture a few years back. I was in RHAH 7, 67-69. We had a lot of good times there as well as Tony and Joe's, the Glass Bar as well as others. Img_0155.jpg.Vigilante.jpg
You are correct. That building is on the westside off Airfield Rd. AA right there as well. I live not too far away from there. A lot of construction going on up and down 114, but I come in via Glade to Airfield.
