  • Hey Kevin this is woody how are you doing? Shoot me an email at jdw4895@hotmail.com
  • Hi Kevin, I'm in Charleston, SC area now. 5 Daughters, 11 grands. I retired from Navy in 92. Started a locksmith business in 90 and have been quite successful. Besides working, I travel the country giving classes to other Automotive locksmiths. I do 2nd tier tech support for an Automotive scan tool company when needed. Lost most of my right lung to cancer 5 years ago. Never smoked but I was a Nuc Weapons QA guy and did Tritium testing on the Submarines I was on. Yeah, I know, Vigi's to Fast Attack Subs! Went to Electronics A school and and then Sub school after a tour at NAS Jax Det Pincastle, a bombing range in the Ocala National Forest. There I worked on and operated a General Dynamics clone of a Russian SAM site. We trained pilots with that threat as well as other threat radars around the range that other sailors operated like Nike and AAA.

Was actually wondering about Woody when I found this site. How is he doing, have you heard from him? He seemed to have been the golden boy as I was getting ready to leave for AW school. BTW, my eyes disqualified me when I got to Milington.

Between Subs I went to New London as a DS C school lead instructor on the Central Computer Complex on the MK 117 Fire Control System on 637 Class boats. Now teaching above all else (work related stuff) is my my love.

I have been in touch with Kenny Colquitt. Did a lot of liberty trips with him. I wasn't in charge of his first liberty;).

Good to hear from you, you look pretty much the same. My latest picture is on my Facebook page albeit a bit grizzled from back then.

I see you got a med discharge. Are you OK? I also got one but managed to wait and do my whole 20. I got away with 70%. I remember when I thought a Military retirement meant I could go fishing. Not even close. Bought a Scout Costa flats boat in 2007 and sold it last month with 20 hours on it. Work work work, no time to fish.

Turned 60 in December and I'm feeling it brother. Wish I could retire but my wife, bless her soul, thinks our grands need everything they want, along with stuff she thinks they want or need.

If you can forgive me for that long Ologapo liberty trip;), tell me how you've come along.

    Steve
  • Hi Kevin, don't know if you remember but I was assigned to take you on your first liberty into Olongapo. If you don't remember me, I'm sure you remember 'the rest of the story'. Happy to see you still kicken'.

  • Hi Kevin,  You guys did a great job keeping our A-5s in the air!  That was a very sophisticated aircraft and we had the best maintenance people in the Navy.  I flew a lot of high and low level missions.  Mach 2 at altitude is one thing, but 750 KIAS at 10' was a real thrill!   I'm living in Argyle, TX, about 45 mi. NW of Dallas.  Btw, call me Don like all my friends.

  • I got rid of that a long time ago, you still own that truck with the gas tank in the back?
  • Hi Kevin,

Gilbert "Woody" Wood here, how have you been?  We were in "Five" together, how's your little brother doing?
