Hello, Artie. Happy New Year
The biggest blessing of this New Year, was to wake up with my wife and coffee and go through my emails, and find your response to my April '19 post. Tears started streaming immediately! I too, have lived with that memory, and hoped that someone who was there would get ahold of me. Thank you.
What an awful feeling that must have been for you that fateful day. I was on the forward port sponson, unauthorized, so I ws the soul observer of the plane nosing into the water. For sure the canopies were still closed and when it resurfaced, the canopies and seats with the crew were gone. I knew exactly what happened and we not see them again. a brutal memory for a 19 year old seaman.
I loved the 'Viggie', my very favorite.
I would very much like to talk sometime with you in person. I would like to get dog tags that I would wear for the pilots and I salute the flag and the POW/MIA flag every day at the post office, and say a prayer.
Thank you again for sharing.
Your brother in arms, John
