Retired huh? Lucky you. I'll probably be working until I die.
I stayed in the reserves for another 8 years and gave it up because of my other interests and such. So, now I'll retire wth only Social Security and the IRAs that I have built up. Technically, I could probably retire when I'm 65. But, I plan to work until I just don't have the interest anymore.
My email address is g_hammons@verizon.net. It's probably easier to communicate through that..
As for not keeping in touch with old buddies while on Active Duty. I've tried in the past several years to rebuild some old friendships. I'm still in touch with a guy that was a supervisor in AMD and worked for him the whole time that we were on shore duty in Albany and also in Sanford (before Albany). He retired as an E-9, got his college degree from U of Florida and and became a teacher at U of Florida, Jacksonville. He's now retired and cruises around North America in his RV during the summer months.
As for Ron, I haven't heard from him since I left active duty. I did find a couple of others a few years back. Frank Janscek and Joe Harp. They were both AQ's. Frank tried to stay in for a career, but, his wife ultimately said, It's either the Navy or me (and 2 children). So, he got out after 10 or 12 years. Joe Harp, the last I heard from him, is a part owner in a Honda Dealership near Columbus, Ohio. That's about all I know.
My roommate in Albany was Ron Clark. But, I was thinking that this may have been after the Ranger cruise. You're right though, old age makes it difficult to remember. I did have a 69 Dark Blue 2 door Chevy Impala. I did work in AMD all the time until Christmas before exiting 4Jan71. I was an AT-2.
So, where are you now? I'm in the Dallas, Texas area.
"I put your address in my address book. Mine is song@wisperhome.com. It might change but should be ok for now. Do you still have a Cruise book from the 69/70 Ranger? If you do, I'm on page # 262 with the Rriggers and AMEs. I'm pretty sure that's you…"
"I'm retired living in a small town about 20 miles east of St Louis. I thought you were the person that shared the room with me. I was in contact with Ron Clark for a while a couple years ago but lost track of him somehow. He was in Penn. somewhere.…"
"Hi, I was just wondering when you were in Recce5? I'm from O'Fallon also. We deployed on the Ranger out of NAS Albany in 69. Looks like you were at NAS key West. That's a little past my time. Anyway, just thought I'd say hello.
John"
"Hello,
I was wondering when you were in Recce5? When I first arrived at NAS Albany in Mar 69 I was assigned a room with two others. I think one was named Clark and you may have been the other. The name sounds familier. After a few months, Clark and…"
