I was over in the Wilmington area a couple of years ago but we were just traveling through going to Kitty Hawk. Great area.
I have wondered what ever happened to you and Smitty. Sounds like you had a great career in education. I saw Phil Miller's name on the member list and was going to write him. I have kept in touch with John Meyer over the years. I accidentally ran into Lash in a Houston mall when I was building a store there. I asked him if he had done the check-your-change shuffle lately. Was he ever surprised. I looked up George Roper in Philly once and talked to him. He never pursued his cartooning career but instead retired as a railroad security guard. I have run into a few other guys who were in out squadron over the years like Mike Shinn who was a Personalman.
As for me, after I got out in August of 1970, I joined the Naval Reserves in January of 1971. After college I received a commission as an Intel Officer and retired as a Lieutenant Commander in 1993. I had several jobs over the years but I finally started an electronics company in 1998 and we manufacture controls and instruments primarily for the Cement, Mining and Power industries. My website is www.westecinstruments.com. I turn 65 in a couple of weeks but I enjoy working and selling this equipment and only have to answer to my wife. So retirement is not in the near future. We have 2 kids and one grandson and fly out to San Francisco about every 2 month to visit them. Better than living there.
It would be nice to hear from you. Give me a shout at 817-637-7392 sometime or just email me at wes@westecinstruments.com.
"John,
I am still in Wilmington but am out of the charter boat business. I have a 21 ft boat that I fish when I can. Retired after 31 years teaching high school science. Working again for a DoD funded program that encourages young people to study…"
