Thought I'd say hi. I was in Northville yesterday (my wife and I live in Troy MI) to pick up my grandkids from school at Northville Christian and drop them off and visit my son and his wife at their home. He lives North of Eight Mile Rd. basically across from Maybury State Park in the Maybury Park subdivision. I was in the Navy from 1966-1970 serving in both RVAH-3 & 13 getting out as an AQB-2 in 1970. I worked at AT&T in Detroit for a couple of years and moved on to the start-up of MCI Telecommunications. I spent 17 years there as a technician, Ops. Manager, Ops Director, Expert Technical Witness, Corporate Mergers, and Director of Engineering. I ended up mergering (if there is such a word) myself into a good buyout and basically retired at age 42.
Anyway, that is a little about me. What caught my eye is your book which I plan on picking up as soon as I sign off from here. I have toyed with the idea of doing a book or document of some sort. My family on both sides goes back to the pre-Revolutionary War (both grandfathers were in the war) with the vast majority of in-line predecessors being born in the Colonies or the United States. I was involved in so much stuff growing up, in the Navy, and in the civilian world that I would like to at least document the journey. Your book just might give me the kick start I need to do something!
I am looking forward to receiving your book and I'll even let you know my opinion. If/when this Covid stuff takes a hike I might suggest we meet for lunch in Northville or Plymouth and talk about the world.
PS I do own a 1968 Shelby GT-500. Please don't ask if it's driveable! That's at least one chapter in a book!
Hi , I didn't catch it that you were in VAH/RVAH-6 then ! Was in that outfit late 64 [caught the Forrestal in Naples ] I was transfered from VAH-8 with a couple others to 6 , went back to Whibdey to drop the A3's off ,then the transition to Vigies in NAS Sanford in 65 did the Westpac on Connie ! Was in AE shop ! And did you have to have a Plymouth in Plymouth Mi.? I know a couple here in FLA. that had a Pontiac from Pontiac Mi. Never met anybody from Cadillac Mi. so I don't know about that !

Say what you will about "high performance"...there's something reassuring about the throb of those big round engines. I just had brunch last weekend with a friend and his dad who did 36 missions ( also as a navigator ) in B-24s. He was shipped over as a replacement following the Ploesti Raids. With all that you must have seen...I magine what must go through his head./ LT
Hi Shevs...I guess you were the pathfinder as I came along later via RVAH-3 at NAS Albany then Heavy Six for the 72/73 WestPac on America. I hit you up because I was in Plymouth, MI last Father's Day and enjoyed the EAA event at Mettetal Airport. Are you still aviation oriented?
"We've never met, but I have your first Osprey book RA-5C Vigilante Units in Combat. My VAH-6 Squadron mate and Vigi pilot, Art Skelly speaks highly of you.

"Les,
After leaving active service I remained in the Navy Reserve flying as a nav in the high-speed, high performance C-54 for four years. We then upgraded to a newer, even more high-speed, high performance a/c, the C-118. I remained in the reserve…"
"Hello Les,
Great to have you as a friend. During what years were you attached to RVAH-6 and RVAH-3? I was assigned to VAH-6 from the RAG in March, 64. Made a Med Cruise in the A-3B, then transitioned to the Vigi with RVAH-6 in 1965. Made a WestPac…"

Amazing....yes it has been a LOOOOOONG time.
When my enlistment ended @ Mar/65 I opted NOT to reenlist.
Something I have regretted since that day...
Did meet some outstanding people and made LOTS of friends.
Some I have located others have just disappeared ...Still got a lot of memories...Some were scariern hell...some were funnier hell
I was in VAH 6 from 63' until I was discharged in 1965..
Your name sounds mighty familiar...We flew A3Bs IIRC.The Joseph Shevlin I knew was COPILOT at that time.
