Welcome aboard Dieter, you are so right about the RVAH 6 family, It was great when I was there and that experience help mold me in the future. Good times for sure.Proto
WELCOME ABOARD DIETER, DO YOU STILL HAVE ALL THE FLAGS YOU COLLECTED FROM YOUR SERVICE. I, TOO SPENT OVER 23 YRS. AND WITHOUT A DOUBT RVAH-6 WAS THE BEST COMMAND I SERVED WITH.
In my 22 years in the Navy, my fondest memories are my three years in RVAH-6. The people I served with were exceptional. Never have I seen a group of people stick up for each other the way the guys in RVAH-6 did. It did not matter if you were an officer, a chief or an Airman. If you were in RVAH-6 you belonged and you were made to feel that way.
"Carl, thank you for your contact. I don't live to far from you. I live in central Missouri near Jefferson City. I have not been back to Millington since I went to school there. I understand it has changed dramatically. What is the NEX like down…"
"Thank you Salt. My oldest son retired from the Navy in Jan as a Chief, my youngest joined the Navy in May and is presently onboard the CVN70 as an AO. I am pretty much retired and am doing a lot of traveling with my wife. Just enjoying life and…"
"Thank you for remembering Salt. That was on 3 May 1974. The ship was at 38 deg 25 min North and 12 degrees 48 minutes East. I look at the pictures frequently. How are you these days? I am living in Mid-Missouri and getting ready for Christmas. I…"
"Yes, Steve, I do. Not only that but I have my diary from my service years and I am writing my memoirs. RVAH-6 certainly were my most memorable years. It was a great command made up of great people."

You haven't aged a day. I still remember when they flew your naturalization flag on the Forrestal!
