Doug, if you can arrange it with the museum have Tammy (gift shop boss) hold the hat for me to sign before mailing to you. Save a lot of back n forth mailings.
Met with you at the museum last October after our tour with the "shooter"(we made the same USS America WestPac around the world cruise while I was with Heavy 12). enjoyed our chat. Sorry I missed your B-Day. Some how I've managed to misplace my Military Aviation Museum ball cap. If I send to the museum for a replacement, would you do me the honor of autographing the bill of the cap? Doug out.
We've never met, but I have your first Osprey book RA-5C Vigilante Units in Combat. My VAH-6 Squadron mate and Vigi pilot, Art Skelly speaks highly of you.

I agree this seems like the right place. Based on your book, I sought out and spoke to CDR Ron Pollard by phone earlier this year. During the 1973 crisis, CDR Pollard remembered that they spent most of that cruise in Rota and only sent two planes at a time, for only two weeks at a time, to the carrier. The mixed-wing concept, strike and ASW missions, was employed and there just was not room for a full RA-5C deployment. I am looking to talk to others from both 1967 and 1973 Arab Crisis periods which can describe the organic airborne collection from the carriers and how supported commander decision making afloat. I am also looking to talk to the Squadron Intelligence Officers from those times to ask: how did the afloat collection and the intelligence organization support developing battlespace awareness and prevented entering into an escalation spiral with the Soviets? Sea stories illustrating the crisis, collection operations, and decision making are welcomed!!
I am researching the IOIC system associated with the RA-5C. I am looking to talk to PH/PTs who worked on the RA-5C onboard systems as well as the IOIC within CVIC. While I am specifically looking at the Mediterranean deployments of the SARATOGA/RVAH-9 and AMERICA/RVAH-5 in 1967 (Six-Day War) and the JF KENNEDY/RVAH-11 and INDEPENDENCE/RVAH-14 in 1973 (Yom Kippur War), I want to talk to anyone who can describe the system's incorporation into the overall intelligence fusion and support to operations. I would like to speak to any intelligence officers or PH/PT that made those deployments.
Seems to me that I remember you as Boog not Boom Boom. Enjoyed your book about the RA5C and find the articles you write in aviation magazines to be very interesting. Thank-you. I was in the Ops Division working for Cdr Ream on the 70-71 cruise.

Excerpt from my Osprey book:
After the Mediterranean deployment which included the Six Day War, Ron Pollard stayed…"
"Gene "Screwtop" Quist retired as full colonel after a career that included flying in the SR-71. Lives in obscure town ijn mountains of New Mexico. Saw him about 3 years ago when he was still in Colorado
