Pensacola will be the reunion location

Attendees are welcome to make lodging arrangements which best suits their needs.  The folks at the Pensacola Grand are providing a reduced rate and allowing us space to gather as a group to tell “sea stories” and meet & greet old acquaintances.  If you choose to stay at the Pensacola Grand they have a block of rooms for RVAH-5 under the code "AH5".  The confirmed room rate is $119.00/tax for a standard room with two queen beds.  All unreserved rooms will release on August 15.  Pensacola Grand will continue taking reservations after this date, at the quoted rate, based on availability at the time of the request.  You can contact the hotel direct for reservations:   850-433-3336 ask for Room Reservations with code "AH5".  The hotel provides free airport shuttle 6am-10pm.  All guest rooms receive free WiFi.

On Saturday, Sept 30th all Savage Sons, Family and Friends will gather at the Cubi  Point Bar & Grill within the Naval Air Museum.  Between 11am – 1pm, check in - we’ll do lunch and mingle.  Lunch will be served off their regular menu, pay as you go.  After lunch (1:30pm) we’ll gather at RA5C display for group pictures, discussions, presentations (if any) and spend the afternoon touring the Air Museum.  I was not able to get it etched in stone but the good folks at the Air Museum are going to get the RA5C moved up to the main building area from the back lot in time for the reunion gathering.

More details will be forth coming about the Friday night gathering and Saturday events as they firm up….. A few things still being planned but have some bugs to be worked out.  Stay tuned!!

  • Still holding a camera all these years later. 2019 will I hope be another year in good health shooting available light. I still flash back to days on the ship or on the line working. One day to remember was in Naples hoisting the panoramic camera into place and the admiral walking up and asking me what I was doing while the ship was on holiday routine. Nearly crapped my navy skivvies when I looked up to see who was asking the question which up to that moment I thought was a dumb question. He was nice and told me to take the rest of the day off. Told the Chief and he told me to get back to work

Hey! I just got my t-shirt from Scottees. Nicely done. Did you get one? I may order another one.

I thought I'd sent a note to say, although I would truly like to be there on the 30th, it's doubtful. My wife and I have developed some health issues in the last couple of years. I was hoping that her back, hip and other pains would be managed if not gone. And the two surgical procedures required this summer would have her in a much better state that she is. She loves the beach, and that's the only long trip she will tolerate. Look, Pensacola is on the beach! I got, the look.

It's just a 4 hour drive (which admittedly is long for us) from Harrisburg to the Jersey shore. 30 more minutes to Cape May. We did see the Panama City beach, once. We did an hour and a half there (long story) … about 32 years ago.

Anyway, I think I am well enough to make the trip alone. However, it's her strong opinion that the Parkinson's illegal attack on my body has become  too  restrictive for traveling alone.  Maybe. So,  - maybe I can go AWOL. We'll see.

I was sad when we passed Aug 15th and the release of the of the AH5 rooms. I would surely think with Irma's impact , rooms at the last minute will be difficult to find. Currently we are consumed in preparations for her West Virginia family reunion here this weekend.  It's the most active thing we'll tried for a while.

    That's enough, Sailor, lights out!

    Bye.
