Lexington Park, MD - The Patuxent River Naval Air Museum is seeking volunteers to assist in restoring and preserving the fleet of 33 historically unique aircraft in its collection.

The 2020 Aircraft Restoration and Preservation Kickoff will be held in the museum’s Flight Technology Hall on February 26th, 2020 from 5pm to 7pm. Experience is desired but not required, anyone interested in learning about aircraft will be welcome.

The first aircraft delivered to the museum, an RA-5 Vigilante, has been a part of the inventory since 1978, and the most recent aircraft is an MV-22 which arrived last year. “Due to the environment in which the planes have been displayed for the last 40 years, some are in need of repair and restoration beyond what one or two volunteers can accomplish,” said Clark Jones, the aircraft maintenance lead and board member at the Pax Museum. “We’re looking for anyone with a desire to help”.

Jones also noted that both sailors and contractors from the base have been very helpful in getting an in depth maintenance program off the ground recently.

Volunteers interested in assisting with everything from washing aircraft to in-depth repair are encouraged to attend the information session or contact Mr. Jones at clark.jones@paxmuseum.org.

The Patuxent River Naval Air Museum (PRNAM) is a member-supported, privately-funded museum preserving the history and heritage of Naval Aviation and specifically the Research, Development, Test and Evaluation completed at Patuxent River.

Located just outside Gate 1 of Naval Air Station Patuxent River, the PRNAM is operated by the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum Association, Inc.,  a 501(C)3 non-profit charitable organization.  First opened in 1978, the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum now spans three buildings and also includes a Flight Line consisting of one-of-a-kind aircraft and aircraft configurations unique to the Naval Test Center.
