Yeah, she was the heaviest bird to ever fly off the carrier. 3 man crew, 4th seat optional. I flew once in a while. I was an AT2 worked the shop first Med cruise and flight deck on the second.
I guess you saw the A3 in my photos of the rollout at Castle.
Well, as we Niners used to say, Hoot Hoot. Take care.
Is that the photo you were referring to? The rollout pictures in my album were taken at Castle Museum in Atwater, CA 2013. I was there for the ceremony.
Yes Stu, I was in VAH 7 from '60 to '63. I was an AT and worked the line mostly instead of in the shop. I'm sure we met some times. Frank Riley I now live in the upstate of South Carolina on lake Keowee near Clemson
My dad was in the Vigi community while I was growing up, but unfortunately they were retired by the time I enlisted. I have great memories of being a kid in Sanford and Albany.
"Welcome aboard ,
We had a conversation in the early 2000's. You were starting an RV excursion
from Florida and I was still working as a corporate pilot in Ft. Lauderdale. I sincerely hope all is well and you're enjoying a well deserved retirement.…"
"Chris I came across your photo on b/u 149282 in 1963. We lost two great guys in Feb that year wit a round down strike on night ops. Lt. Cruise and Ltjr . Cottle. Your picture brought back a lot of memories. Best regards, Stu Carlin"

On of the AT's from your shop in '62 or '63 gave me a patch with a Vigi dumping a nuke. It had a blue background with the gray and white aircraft. Any memories?
Hope all is well,
Stu Carlin"

Many great times and memories! Where the photos taken of that recent good lookin' A3?
"Charlie we keep getting all these years in between our conversations. The last time we talked I was still working in FL. I had a conversation with Bob Beck about getting together with our wives for a dinner and he was suppose to contact you. Did…"

Hi Stu,
The picture of me next to the A3 was taken in 1957, aboard the Saratoga. We were on operation Strikeback, above the Arctic Circle.
