  • John, I remember you well.  Email me at jlolley@bamacues.com or call me at 240-446-8871.  Several of us are on some Facebook pages where we rehash old memories.  What a great bunch of guys all of you were...we had some fun times.  I never understood or knew why Orin and McAnus thought so poorly of me.  I never did anything to any of them.  It worked out, though, because Orin had already filled out, approved, and submitted a request for early out due to base relocation when I did rejoin the squadron....

  • Hi Joe, do you remember me?  We were on the '73 Med cruise aboard the JFK.  I remember you having to go home because of the death of your son.  I also remember what a morale boost it was when you didn't have to come back because Oren and McManus where laying for you....they were out to rack you over the coals!  I was very surprised and pleased to run across your name, I've been looking for anyone I knew back then, John Patton, Randy Lennon, Tommy Swain, Don Hartman, etc.  Give me a shout!

  • Ken, that is a great photo. Looks like you were having fun. Yes, the years have slipped by way too fast. My time in the Navy is as vivid as though it was yesterday. Looking back, they were much, much better years than I perceived them to be at the time. Now it seems that every week brings news of another classmate or friend either passing or being sick. back then, seemed like it took forever to go from Friday to Friday..now months pass at the blink of the eye. To all those I knew back then, thanks for fond, fun-loving memories.

  • Was re-reading a post you wrote concerning our past Skippers.  Great men, that we miss even today.

I served in Forrestal , then back to WestPacs on Kitty Hawk.  I was so proud to be one of "Chubby Charlie's Cheerful Checkertails".  After Heavenly Eleven, and re-enlistment by RK Jellison, I went to RVAH-3 (AIMD PECM shop) and on to F-14 Tomcats ..

The years have slipped by quickly.

  • Joe,

I left a message on the main blog. But if you would send me an email navy23@hotmail.com we could exchange phone numbers. I am better at talking than typing. Hope to hear from you soon. Art

  • Thanks Joe, I appreciate it. Maybe it will help trip the memory chip in my brain, lol.
  • Mike Rebelez, Yes! That's his name! A very funny guy too. I do remember getting some of that triple etch acid in my left eye and had to wear a patch for a week, got a lot of ribbing over that deal....Aye Matey!
  • Wow Joe, I remember the situation where you had to go stateside because of your baby's death. I believe we were off the coast of Spain or France at that time. I know what you mean about a lot of water under the bridge, I have a hell of a time remembering names myself. Chief Matthews, glad you remembered his name, I certainly forgot. I was assigned to the power plant shop at the time and was temporarily assigned to the corrosion control unit. I believe the guy up top was named Alred or something like that. The guy beneath me, I don't remember his name, but believe it or not, I can still hear his accent. As for you remembering me I don't know what I can tell you that would help. In our birthing unit, I was located near the isle left-side middle rack, about two isles from the TV area, port-side. I'm looking for some more pics to send in, maybe then it will help. Do you remember Howard Cannon, Eddie Dean or Bill White?.
  • I'm sorta surprised that all the photomates here aren't members on that site too. I used to check it on a regular basis but not so much since my dad died. My mother is still listed as a life member even though they have an old address. I used to attend the "Chief's roundups" when dad was still around but have lost interest since he passed. Dad was PHC Quentin Sawyer. I grew up around Navy photo and still count many of the older chief's as friends. There are just fewer of them now.

"I will post a pic of me with John Patten and Randy Lennon as soon as I can locate it.  I have one that was taken on the Kennedy during the Med Cruise as we were preparing to leave the ship, all spiffy in our whites....Joe"

"I am trying to get a fix on you...I think I remember, but a lot of water has crossed under the bridge since then.  The guy on the lower rung of your pic was my roommate, along with Scotty Engolio, back in Albany (for the life of me, his name won't…"

"You are right...time catches up with us all....the great equalizer.

I had 2 photo chiefs while I was with RVAH-11, PHC Mike Keim, and PHC Bob Orin. Both were really knowledgable, but as different as night and day. PHC Keim would take you out behind…"
