Was in K West from 1973 to 1977 was mostly AIMD type. Decommissioned Heavy 13 and 9. got put in the Rag and was convinced to ship over as a TD. Spent 1977 to 1988 on the F-14 and E-2c simulators at NAS Miramar. Got sent to VF211 made Kitty Hawk and Nimitz 1988 to 1990. Had fun in Korea when we pulled in 1989, was Squadron DCPO. MCPO Gaylor was not in my chain of command but he sure was and greatly appreciated. Think John Jenesta ? was the commands DCPO Officer, was a blast to train him. I remember de-briefing a RIO once on the Kittyhawk after fight ops ( might of been LT Brown) Asked him about what mode he was in and angle of attack and what the boggey was at and when it broke lock That's when he asked me if I was the back & front seat operator in the sims. I spent a lot of time both front seat and back.. Spent 2 years with Cunningham (DUKE) with make a wish with kids was both rewarding and sad. He taught me a lot on how to engage he was awesome both front and back seat. After retiring can back for MCPOs retirement for a day, he sure had a lot of friends.
Great to hear from an old shipmate. Been a long time. Interesting that you found me on the Heavy 7 RECCE Net. Did you ever serve with us at NAS Key West or NAS Albany GA? I am sure you were too young for that era. Miss C.O. Gaylor our Master Chief. He was a great Chief and mentor to me. Tough guy with O’s and E’s alike. Capt. Hoffman really appreciated him leading the KH’s chief’s mess. Were you on board when he gave us a white glove inspection before we could leave the ship after a REFTRA? Never saw the Master Chief sweat so much. Hoffman was my CAG on the Nimitz back in the early 80’s when I was in VF 84. Lots of sea stories.
Hope all is well with you and your family. Please stay in touch. I am retired in Virginia Beach. If your in the area please give me a call would like to get together.
I worked with the Duke and David Wheat at FASO meat some shit hot stick men, but no one was better than the Duke, sad ending story. The 2 star and I worked together for a bit was a nice guy when ya got to be one & one with him. He took good care of me along with the wing MCPO from Lemoore Mickinny I think.
made cruise with you as a AQ-1 was a TD-1 was a AQAN . Was at FASO Miramar on F-14 sims. Made Kitty Hawk & Nimitz with 211. Division offer was VAPER he was a blast to have a SQUAD D/C officer, I think I did some good for his promotions.Retired Jan 1990.
