  • I am wondering if you were acquainted with my late father, Capt Ray D Murphy?
He was in RVAH-3 and then in RVAH-1 where he was XO in 66 and CO in 67-68.
  • Neil. Great to hear from you. Yes, I do remember returning the blender-what a life saver as you may remember TJ's wife loved frozen dacqueris (sp?) .I have received a notice from now VADM TJ Kilcline via Brad Jones (Photo mate during our WESTPAC cruise) that TJ Jr. & one of his sisters commissioned a replica of a Hvy-11 Vigi with TJ Sr and Vince Monroe's names on the canopy rails is to be placed on display at the Washington Navy Yard with dedication on the first Sat. of August. If you are interested I can forward Brad Jones's e-mail to you, however, I believe he copied you on the same e-mail that I received.

Do you know anything about Joe Pelton or Dan Grinyviski(sp?) or any others from the '67 WestPac Cruises? I know that LCDR Lenhart has passed away. My wife and I had dinner with him and his wife in San Diego some years back when he was COMNAVAIRPAC's OPS Officer. My wife and I plus our son (Scott) had Sunday brunch with CAPT Charlie Choyce also in San Diego when he was EXEC of the Ranger. I spoke to Patty Choyce a few weeks after Charlie passed away many years ago. I also had a brief telephone conversation with Charlie James when he was CO of NAS Dallas prior to his retirement. I know that Bob Jellsion is still in the northern California area and that Bob Repp (one of our Tech Reps on the WestPac cruises has passed away.

I retired after about 40 yrs of working for the US Depts. of Energy and Interior, and the States of Arizona and Nevada. Made my career in marketing of federal hydroelectric power from Hoover Dam. Scott, our son is now a guide at Hoover (first 4th generation employee of Hoover Dam - Great Grandfather, both grandfathers and myself worked at Hoover during some part of our respective careers.

Thank you for the invitation. We had hoped that we would get to the RVAH Reunion this year but our daughter and son-in-law both had major surgery recently and we took over with the grandkids. We would enjoy getting to see you again.

    Regards,

    Harvey
  • Neil - Don't know if you remember me as I was only with RVAH-11 from when we deployed on Forrestall's '67 WESTPAC "fire cruise" and the double back on Kitty Hawk until late Nov. when we reached Japan. I was medivac'd to Subic Bay hospital and then back to San Diego Balboa Hospital. I was the an ensign when I joined the squadron with VADM T. Kilcline and the change of command to Charlie Choyce. I worked in IOIC with Joe Pelton, sqdrn AIO-Sam Mullett and Dan Grinivyski. My roommate was Wayne Davis (he lives in Mobile and we still talk by phone every month or so.) My wife was expecting our first child when we were in Sanford. You and your wife loaned us your blender so I could make drinks for (then CDR Kilcline and his wife) when they made their "return call" on my wife and me the weekend before we departed for Norfolk to embargue Forrestall. You were a WO at the time I met you. Congrats on what appears to be a stellar career.

If you ever are out west, look us up. We are still 26 miles SE of Las Vegas right next to Hoover Dam. Telephone is still 702-293-1000.

    Warmest regards, Harvey

I certainly do remember you. I don't recall the blender, did you ever give it back?
Please give my best to your wife and say hi to Wayne for me.
I did have a lot of fun in the Navy and my days in RVAH-11 were some of the best. I suppose you…"
