Ralph Taylor Hewling Buena Vista, Colorado February 12, 1953 - January 15, 2016
Ralph T. Hewling, 62, of Buena Vista, died peacefully at home on January 15, 2016. Ralph was born on February 12, 1953 in Chicago, IL. Ralph joined the Navy when he was 18, serving for 4 years and also served for 2 years in the Navy Reserve. He was stationed in the Lowery Air Force in Denver, as Air Force Reconnaissance Photo Gramologist. Ralph soon met and married the love of his life Sherry Zahn in 1974 that resided in Denver, Colorado. After a short courtship they were married on July 23, 1976. This July would have been their 40th wedding anniversary. While residing in Denver, Ralph and Sherry owned a restaurant called Ralphs Pizza +. Ralph loved to cook and was considered a Chef of Culinary Arts. Soon after their wedding they moved to Leadville where they lived for 2 years, wanting to raise their children in Buena Vista, due to the great school district they had been told about. Ralph was employed at B & B Excavating in Edwards, when he had a debilitating accident that left him with chronic pain and disability, but that never stopped him from smiling, his laugh was contagious and his presence was unmatchable. Ralph’s nickname was Pooh Bear , although big and ferocious looking on the outside, inside he was just a cute teddy bear. Every tear and heart break was washed away with his kindness and laughter. A beloved husband and father, his passions were cooking, watching John Wayne movies and singing. We miss you already Ralph, your wings were ready but our hearts were not. My Dad had a lifelong love of coffee cakes and anything with peanut butter. He will be very missed and always loved. I can’t wait till we can have a brew together again. I love you Dad. Survivors are Sherry Hewling, wife, of Buena Vista, Co., daughter Shannon Hewling, of Buena Vista, Co., son, Brandon Hewling, , of Buena Vista, brother, Tom Hewling, of Denver, Co., sister, Lori Hewling, of Georgia.
