Peter Nicholas Sweetman, formerly AE2 USN, passed away June 17, 2016.

Peter Sweetman, of Port Washington, went peacefully to his heavenly home during the early morning hours of Friday, June 17, 2016 at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon. He was 71 years old.
Peter was born in Manitowoc on February 23, 1945, son of Paul Sweetman and Alice Staudt Sweetman. He grew up in Two Rivers, graduating from Washington High School (Two Rivers High School) in 1963. He attended college at the University of Wisconsin until he joined the Navy in 1967. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam conflict, serving as an Aviation Electrician 2nd Class on the USS Constellation and USS Ranger in the Gulf of Tonkin. He was honorably discharged in 1970.
On December 30, 1967 he married Jane Sinkula at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Two Rivers. Peter started his career as an electrical technician at Northwest Engineering in Green Bay. In 1978, the couple moved their young family to Port Washington where Peter accepted a position at Bolens Manufacturing. He later worked at P & H Harnischfeger in Milwaukee and Avenatech headquartered in Miami, FL. He retired in 2003.
Peter was a longtime member of St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church where he was active in the Men's Club and also sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post 82 in Port Washington. Peter also enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, decorating for the holidays, camping, music, singing and jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Peter especially enjoyed walking his daily "route" along the bluff, the marina and the bike trail in Port Washington. Peter was an avid Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers fan.
Peter is survived by his wife Jane of Port Washington, his two daughters Amy (Tim) Reiss of Port Washington and Melissa (Terry) Mannion of West Chester, PA, his five grandchildren Spencer and Madison Reiss and Drew, Lily and Brendan Mannion. He is further survived by his sister Mary Lorraine (Edgar) Ploor of Lansing, MI, brothers-in-law: Dennis (Mary) Sinkula of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Tom (Deanne) Sinkula of Two Rivers, Jeff (Debbie) Sinkula of Green Bay, Craig Sinkula of Two Rivers, Brian (Cathy) Sinkula of Oconomowoc and Bruce (Tammy) Sinkula of Wausau, sister-in-law Barbara (the late Arthur) Havlinek of Manitowoc, his mother-in-law Bernice Sinkula of Two Rivers, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. He is preceded in death by his son Jeffrey Sweetman, his parents and his father-in-law Bernard Sinkula.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 7 PM at St. Peter of Alcantara Catholic Church, 1800 N. Wisconsin St., Port Washington. Father Patrick Wendt will preside over Mass. A time of gathering will precede the Mass at the CHURCH from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested.
