Mr. Marty Huisman, 67, of Sylvester died on Tuesday, July 2, 2018 at his residence.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Banks Funeral Home
Chapel with interment to follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. His brother Rev. Robert "Bobby" Huisman will officiate.
Mr. Huisman was born on July 19, 1950 in Harvey, Illinois to Frances Mary Mango Huisman and to the late Thomas Russell Huisman. He has lived in Worth County since 1994. Mr. Huisman was a United States Navy Veteran, and he retired from the Marine Corps Logistics Base as the Maintenance Management Center Director after 40 years of service. He loved working with the Worth County Sheriff's Office and was a deputy since 2009. Mr. Huisman was also a professor at Albany State University for several years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses, and riding his Harley. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Sylvester.
Survivors include his wife, Merry Huisman of Sylvester; daughters, Kelley Plant (Mathew) of
Tifton, Kristina Spires (Shaefer) of Franklin, TN, Kerri Hancock (Danny) of Sylvester; Grandchildren, Noah McCorkle, Jackson Plant, EllaKate Plant, Camden Spires, Caleb Spires, Isabelle Hancock and Brodey Hancock; Mother, Frances Huisman; Sisters, Linda Huisman, Marianne Mills (Steve); Brother, Robert
"Bobby" Huisman (Lisa), and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Huisman was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Russell Huisman.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 PM until 8 PM at Banks Funeral Home Chapel.
