I was an AT in RVAH-5 on the USS Enterprise when Cdr. Everett and Lt.Cdr Stokes' plane went down in the ocean. Something I never will forget. I guess it was the first closest experience with death while in the Navy up to that point. The ship stopped dead in the water for about an hour, sending out search and rescue personnel, but sadly, nothing was found. The best I remember, they were about a half mile out approaching the ship when radio communications went silent. The cause of the accident was never determined. REST IN PEACE CDR EVERETT AND LT.CDR STOKES.
Thanks fer the info ,Stick , I was looking for this information !! A lot of sad and some lucky stories there !!
JK Thompson and CR Polfer both were later C.O.'s in H6. F Prendergast was later maint off in H6!!
