David Bruce Matz, born on March 19, 1946, in Ashland, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 28, 2024, in Orlando, Florida. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Dave's life was marked by dedication, warmth, and a jovial spirit that touched all who knew him.

Dave graduated from Ashland High School in 1964 and soon after, answered the call to serve his country. He served as an aviation technician in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1970, a period that instilled in him a lifelong passion for both air and sea.

In 1971, he married the love of his life, Elaine (nee Withrow), with whom he shared 53 wonderful years. Together, they raised two children, Eric (Sara) of Delaware, OH, and Amy (Dominic Necciai) of Pittsburgh, PA. David was also a devoted grandfather to Katie, Lauren, Megan, and Lake, who will forever cherish the memories of his playful, kind and caring nature.

Dave made his career in aviation sales, culminating in his retirement from Aviall in 2012. His love for the water led him to spend many weekends and vacations boating on Lake Erie. In retirement, he and Elaine settled in a serene lakeside home in Georgetown, Florida, where he continued to enjoy the tranquility of the water and breathtaking sunsets.

Preceded in death by his parents, Lake and Eva Louise Matz, Dave leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. His kind heart and infectious humor will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on December 28, 2024, at Living Faith Church in Wooster (The Village Network building at 2000 Noble Dr., Wooster, OH). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who wish to honor Dave's memory can make a donation to the K9s for Warriors charity (https://k9sforwarriors.org).
