U.S. Veteran Captain Dean E. Webster, USN, Retired, died May 10, 2015 in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 88. He was born in Bedford, Ohio on January 10, 1927, to Virgil and Ethel Webster.

He enjoyed a storied career in the US Navy, beginning flight training in 1946 and earning his wings in July, 1948. He served in five fighter squadrons and participated in five deployments to the Mediterranean. During this time he met the love of his life, Mary Lois Allnoch, and they married on August 2, 1952 in Corpus Christi. Following his duties with fighter squadrons, he transitioned into flying A-3 Skywarrior Heavy Attack aircraft and participated in three Western Pacific deployments. After transitioning to the RA-5C Vigilante, he participated in three Vietnam deployments, serving as Operations Officer of the carrier USS Intrepid for his final two deployments. After his last carrier deployment, he served as the Principal Navy Advisor and Coordinator of Navy POW Matters at the Pentagon, where he performed as the Navy contact point in Washington for military personnel in the field, families of personnel captured or missing, and the Defense Secretariat. He then reported to NAS Albany, Georgia as Wing Commander and finished out his career as Commanding Officer of the base.

He was awarded numerous medals and decorations including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars.
While in the Navy, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Tulane University, a Master’s degree in International Relations at George Washington University, and completed studies at the School of Naval Warfare at the United States Naval War College.

Upon retirement from the Navy, he attended Texas A&I University, Kingsville, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Gas Engineering. He then began a second career in the oil and gas industry in South Texas. He retired from the oil and gas industry in 1985 and began his “volunteer career”, serving with the Corpus Christi Tennis Association, the Texas Tennis Association, and the United States Tennis Association, where he served on and chaired numerous boards and committees. He was awarded the USTA-Texas Section Family of the Year Award in 1992, the USTA-Texas Section Official of the Year Award in 1993, and the USTA-Texas Section W.T. Caswell Service Award in 1996.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Lois Allnoch Webster. He is survived by his 9 children, Jeff (Lori) Webster, Joel (Cathy) Webster, David (Mary Jane) Webster, Scott Webster, Susan (Mike) Rourke, Amy (Wayne) Pesek, Robert (Allison) Webster, Nancy Hilliard, James (Lea) Webster, 16 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and his brother Bob Webster.

A rosary will be recited and a Memorial Mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 2045 18th Street, Corpus Christi. Captain Webster and his beloved wife will be laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
