Joseph W. Hood, Jr
Captain Joseph W. Hood, Jr USN (Ret) husband of Mary G. (Stevens) Hood died peacefully at home Friday, April 10th, 2015. Born July 24th, 1934 in Bowling Green, Kentucky he was the son of the late Joseph W. and Mary Elizabeth (Montgomery) Hood of Wilmington, NC. He is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Stewart Hood of Wilmington, NC. He is father to five daughters and 3 step children and had eleven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
He attended Duke University, was awarded an MBA from Naval Post Graduate School Monterey and was a graduate of TC Williams Law School. He was a highly decorated naval aviator before retiring to practice law in Virginia Beach. He was a congregant of First Presbyterian Church and a former board member of several local charities including The Beach Health Clinic, Symphonicity, and Russell House as well as an active member of the St. Andrew's Society.
Memorial service will be held today at 2pm at First Presbyterian Church, 36th & Pacific Avenues, Virginia Beach. Memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Beach Health Clinic, Symphonicity, or Gentiva Hospice.
