Mr. Clifton “Cliff” E. Laub, 79 of Green Cove Springs, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at his home. Mr. Laub was born March 25, 1936 in Washington DC to the late Elmer Russell and Jane E. (Walker) Laub. Cliff was born into a military family. He, with the USN, and his father with the USAF, had a combined total of 65 years of active duty. This lifestyle encompassed visits to over forty countries. Deployments included squadrons on board aircraft carriers Bennington, Oriskany, Midway, Saratoga, and Enterprise. He was a part of Naval history while on board the nuclear powered Enterprise when it circumnavigated the world without refueling and later went into combat during the Vietnam conflict. Roughly one third of his career that spanned 31 years was spent with A-5/RA-5 Vigilante aircraft squadrons. At that time it was the largest and fastest plane to ever operate from an aircraft carrier. Cliff Retired from the Navy as a Master Chief Petty Officer. Mr. Laub also was employed by the Federal Government in the Department of Human Resources and with Fleet and Family Support Services for 17 years. He was a member of Grace Anglican Church of Fleming Island and a member of the Elks Lodge. Mr. Laub was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Clifton Elmer Laub. Survivors are his wife, Susan W. Laub, children, Kathy Lynn Laub, Mark Alan Laub, and Cindy Jo Snider, siblings, Mary Jane Reece, and Joyce Lee Fears, 6 stepchildren, 10 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchild. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the Helm-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Theodore Deering Manning officiating. Mr. Laub will be laid to rest in the Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation to be made to Vitas Hospice Care at http://www.vitas.com/community-page/donate.
