Kim S. Aerts, 65, Powers, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016 at his home. He was born in Menominee on September 17, 1951, son of the late Victor and Jeanne (Heligensten) Aerts. Kim graduated from North Central High School in 1969. He furthered his education at Michigan Tech University where he obtained a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. Kim served in the United States Navy from February 26, 1970 until he was honorably discharged on January 30, 1974. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Star and the USS American Letter of Commendation. Kim loved to spend time outdoors. He especially enjoyed biking and hiking. Kim was also a gifted carpenter and built his own home. He is survived by his children: Jessie Aerts, Jeremy Aerts, Rebecca Aerts, Danielle Aerts, and Amanda (Andrew) Flowers, siblings: Karen (Tom) Garz, Vicki Perry, and Todd (Lisa) Aerts, special family friend: Debbie Nelson, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and raised his children with Priscilla Aerts. Kim was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. (CST) on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at St. John Neumann Church in Spalding. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. (CST) on Saturday at church with Fr. Michael Vichich officiating. Burial will follow Mass in the Spalding Township Cemetery.
