Donald William Young October 6, 1948 – March 23, 2023
Donald William Young, age 74, passed away at his home in Lutz, Fl on March 23, 2023 after a two year battle with pancreatic cancer. He took his last breath while surrounded by his loved ones.
Don was born on October 6, 1948 in Duluth, Mn. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, his “Georgia Peach” Alma, his beloved daughter Stephanie Ramkissoon, her wonderful husband, Sheldon and three delightful grandsons, Everitt (13) Elliott (7) and Liam (5) and his siblings Richard (Sharon) Young, Janice (Tom) Moore and Robert (Mariela) Young. Also his brother in law John (Wynona) Barfield, and sisters in law Phyllis (Lee) Stephens and Anne Watts. He leaves behind several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Gail and Margaret Young and step mother Joan Young. Also, by his sisters Patricia Coyle and Carolyn Clark.
Don is a United States Navy veteran having served for four years as an aircraft mechanic. After his discharge, he settled in Lutz and made his career in eye care. He was a board certified optician, certified ophthalmic technician and certified contact lens specialist. He also taught contact lens courses for Professional Opticians of Florida (POF) where he also sat as a board member. He was proud to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from POF in 2021 to recognize his dedication to education.
Don had many hobbies. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and traveling in his RV. He also enjoyed playing his guitar, golfing and watching trains. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends and was always ready to share his jokes. He loved life!
Rest in peace, Don, Daddy, Papa. We all love you and miss you and we will see you again some day.
